The Cable Access Television industry was founded in the late 1940's in Pennsylvania and thirty years later, it was widely offered to residents across the USA. Today LBCT, Long Beach Community Television, in Long Beach, California is one of the strongest TV stations in the nation!
"PEG (Public Educational and Government) Access channels exist because cable operators provide channel capacity, services, facilities and equipment as partial compensation to communities for their use of public rights-of-way. This compensation provides access to media for the local population." (ACM Alliance for Community Media www.alliancecm.org)
Eighty-four (84) local residents volunteer to produce over 200 hours per month of independent programming for those residing in Signal Hill and surrounding Long Beach. Art, education, politics, entertainment, religion (5+ denominations), gay and lesbian news, sports, disability resources, environmental issues, travel, activism, fitness, health and neighborhood issues... All of these topics have been produced into subject matter for public consumption in English, Spanish, Khmer, French and Samoan and Sign languages. When LBCTelevision programming ends at 9pm, you hear the sound of music as the TV station hosts the audio of kbeach.org, CSULB's student internet radio station.

Entertainment by LBCT Producers DAVID WITHAM (music) with "Judy Garland" aka BEVERLY SHIELDS and DARRICK SIMPSON (poetry), also a member of the Cable Commission. The 2005 LBCT Awards can be enjoyed Sundays (5-7pm) beginning March 12, and Thursdays at 1pm on during the month of March this year.
Note from KaRi: Although I produce TPSradio which is heard on LBCTelevision, the show is NOT eligible for an award because it's not officially a TV show until it's listed The Grid :) but I thought this would be a great time to write a Thank You Speech anyway!

PS Back to the LBCT Awards... Remember T-LILLY who MC'd last year? Well Producer Tyra McNair has since been asked to host the Gospel Awards. there's nowhere to go but Up!
