Occasionally I get asked to judge an Awards Show, but I never accept. (I never judge music, art or personal expression). It doesn't make sense to me, WHO AM I to say someone is better than the rest -AND "in the name of the People"? Not that I don't like Award Ceremonies, ON THE CONTRARY - it's the best way to check out WHO's WHO and WHO DOES WHAT in your area of interest. All in a span of a few hours!
Still, that never prevents me from informing you of contests. For instance, SINGER SONGWRITERS, check out songwriting.net. There is an entry fee and the deadline is May 28, 2004 (March 31st for the Early Birds!)
LONG BEACH TELEVISION AWARDS
I was seated at the "OFFSHORE STEREO" Table of Ten (next to LORENZO & LISA GIGLIOTTI of LongBeachOnline.net, LOUISE KRIPAL and STEVE STEIN of LongBeachArts.org, G & Co of Musicstarmatrix.com (STEP TO THE MIC is on April 8th@BBkings in LA!). MO POWER of LongBeachinWithMo.com was also present as well as MARIE JO MACHEFERT and Karen of EARTHNEIGHBORHOOD.com (who invited AL WELLS of FAMILIES UNITED PERFORMING ARTS!)
So, WHO WON?
The Shining *S*T*A*R* of the Show was definitely the sparkly, blue-eyed JUDY BAKER who, for lack of a more appropriate phrase, "runs the show" as LBCT Supervisor. BAKER's comments were very short&sweet, (if I recall), "I did this with YOU and YOU made this happen!" (Something like that, I wish my miniDisk player worked!). JUDY's passionate crew runs a Second and many thanked GOD for their Awards or Praise.
