Hey there, how is your belly? I am pleased to announce (especially to Sean at Mables.com who replied to my inquiry "What do vegetarians eat on Thanksgiving?") that I spent "Turkey Day" as a vegetarian.
Yep that's right, I broke the tradition and did not eat an animal this year; my roommate prepared the Tofurkey with all of the trimmings. (Of course he had to wade through all of the skin and bones and smoldering carcasses of my other roommates feast who treaded the kitchen before him). Afterwards we brought some vegan pies to those who invited us 'round for the Big Supper - and they were pleasantly surprised!
I am also pleased (Sean!) to announce that RC GROCERY AND GOURMET SANDWICHES will offer a "Speicalty Vegetarian Dish" prepared by ALEX D. MIZE this coming Thursday during the Open Mic. (RC GROCERY is located on Redondo at 10th). Come on down from 6pm-8:30pm and catch ALONZO XZAVIER's groove as well - bring your instrument, poetry, announcements, comedy act....
Speaking of OPEN MICS, THE PRIME SPOT no longer hosts the open mic at the gallery, IT HAS BEEN MOVED to various places in the EAST VILLAGE ARTS DISTRICT: First Mondays: MARGARITA GRILLE (formerly Baja Senora at Atlantic @ First); Second Mondays: PASSPORT COFFEEHOUSE (Broadway @ Linden); Third Mondays: CLASSIC CUP CAFE (First btw Linden and Elm). We are seeking THE PRIME SPOT for Fourth Fridays: KOOS, the coffeeshop next door, ROSCOES COTTON CLUB, HAMBURGER MARY's... We've got a few cool places to approach, where do you suggest would be the best?
KaRi LEAVES GALLERY ELEVEN/SEVEN
Well it's been over a year since I've broughtlive music to the ART WALK venue (The OVER-REACTORS host THE PRIME SPOT Sound Stage, sponsored by IGUANA KELLEYS). If you do a search on GOOGLE.com for the above gallery, you will see over 200 entires posted by Yours Truly. I had been asked by MIKE PARTNOV and members last year to be an honorary member, no monthly dues required. When I accepted, I had MUSIC ("TPSradio in the Evillage?") in mind and I offered to find a sponsor to cover the co-op dues anyway. (That's where IGUANA KELLEYS came in, thank you BRIAN ZINDA, you rock our world and so does your LOCAL jukebox!) Since then I obtained my own space at 4th and Alamitos and I am looking forward to promoting the other small businesses in the area (that will come naturally to those who host THE PRIME SPOT Open Mics). Come CELEBRATE ART & MUSIC the last SECOND SATURDAY ART WALK of the year on December 13th. And check out the Special offer RAYMUNDO's Art & Soul Gallery next door has for the Holidays!
NOWHERE TO GO BUT UP!
THE PRIME SPOT Radio Show has MOVED from Saturday mornings to FRIDAY NIGHTS, 9-11pm. Whoah, I am sooo glad I no longer have to take vacation time from work to do my show. AND, I am proud to announce that FIRST FRIDAYS on TPSradio will SPOTlight "Open Mics." TPSradio usually caters to those local unsigned bands that have CD's and upcoming gigs; on FIRST FRIDAYS you will hear your neighbors who haven't necessarily gotten that far. music, prose, ideas, announcements. Some guests will be LIVE (watch the webcam on CSULB's kbeach.org!) and some will be played right off of my once-trusty minidisk player! (Just a few more donations and I can afford better equipment!)
MORE GREAT NEWS!
Great News! I just got approached by a very special website who wants to post "KaRi's Korner". It is none other than the infamous LONGBEACHONLINE.net which belongs to LORENZO GIGLIOTTI. LBOL has received a few awards for the site and content and also international recognition for being behind the HOT ZONES in town - you know the places where you can get FREE internet if you have a laptop and wireless card downtown and at the Airport??? THE PRIME SPOT subscribers will receive a "Speical Notice" when this is up... Stay tuned! Meanwhile, post YOUR site on LONGBEACHONLINE.net, It is, after all a PORTAL to Long Beach Online!
HAPPY DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING
What are you doing TONIGHT? Come on out to Garden Grove where a bunch of LONG BEACHers will be checking out the BRITISH & DOMINION SOCIAL CLUB. (site: www.britishdominionsocialclub.org). Yes, THE PRIME SPOT is usually all about LONG BEACH, howver sometimes we have to travel (ie. behind the "Orange Curtain" or up to Los Angeles) to spread the news of LONG BEACH talent and happenings - and I am very happy to do this at an "alternative" club. By that, I mean this isn't a bar but it serves alcohol (and British Pub Food) and it is open to ALL AGES! Tonight's show, organized by LBCTelevision's LONG BEACHIN' WITH MO is FREE. Come see OPIUM OF THE PEOPLE, ZEE ROCK (light show!), the band from Ireland, NIVOLA, ALONZO'S GROOVE, and JACKIE AND ILSEY. (ILSEY is the 17 year old daughter of LAURENCE JUBER, former lead guitarist for WINGS... Bands, if you have not been to this "Social Club" yet, keep in mind that you get paid if you charge at the door (members are always admitted FREE).
