The Second City Council (TSCC) is proud to announce its latest exhibition "In
Other Words" which was juried by Patt Morrison, writer and columnist for the
Los Angeles Times. Among a multitude of honors, she has also won five Emmys
and four Golden Mike awards as founding host and commentator of "Life & Times
Tonight," the nightly news and current affairs program on KCET, the leading
PBS station for southern and central California. TSCC's "In Other Words"
explores art that incorporates words, makes literary references or tells a
visual story. First place award winner was Shawn Smith's "Ellison: Visible
Man" the face of which was fashioned out of book pages from Ralph Ellison's
"Invisible Man." Second award went to Peet Cocke's "At a Loss for Words" an
accordion alphabet book which using an endangered species for each letter in
alphabet, "Conversation" by Viviana Lombrozo took the third award and a large
scale installation by Sarah B. Hirneisen, "Five Views, Twenty-three Years" received the eye-opener award.

The Cristensen-Aran Youth Gallery is now open in Suite 437 (on the same floor
as the main gallery) during regular hours. Black and white photography by
local teenage boys living in a Foster Care Group home is on display.

The Second City Council Art Gallery is located inside the historic Ocean
Center Building in downtown Long Beach at 110 West Ocean Blvd., (SW corner of
Ocean & Pine) in Suite 426.

The gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday from noon - 5:00.

"In Other Words" runs through September 6, 2002.
