CHILDNET’S LONG BEACH YOUTH HOME IS THE SITE OF PICNIC AT THE BEACH FEATURING EXCITING NEW RESTAURANTS

Long Beach — Everyone is invited to a Picnic at the Beach on the grounds of the Long Beach Youth Home on July 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. as the Festival of Chefs celebrates 26 years. Picnic at the Beach is the colorful theme for the event, hosted by the Long Beach Youth Home Boosters. The cost is $50 per person, ($55 at the door) and includes all food and beverages. The Boosters president Larry Horwitz and his wife Mary are this year’s co-chairs. The Long Beach Youth Home, a division of ChildNet Youth and Family Services, is located at 4151 East Fountain Avenue.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to sample signature delights from 30 of Greater Long Beach’s finest eateries,” said Horwitz. We have many new restaurants joining us this year, some new to our community. We are very proud to be able to help introduce them to our guests.”

The new-to-Long Beach restaurants are Sevilla of Long Beach, Pacific Coast Grill (with 1001 Nights) and Pete’s at the Beach. Others new to the event include: El Torito, Harvey’s Bar-B-Q Catering Company (Carson) and Pasta Grotto (Seal Beach).

The grounds will be festively decorated with colorful backdrops of beach scenes made by the residents of the Long Beach Youth Home. The boys will also be selling craft items they made to raise money for summer activities. And, they will be taking orders for holiday cards, created from art work painted by four of the residents.

In addition, there will be prizes and fun for everyone with Bill Lovelace, Mobile DJ Entertainment, providing the music.

The Boosters is a group of volunteers whose goal is to raise funds that enable ChildNet to continue to expand its programs for these vulnerable youth. Again this year, the event is sponsored by one of the Boosters founding members Bee Hart with her daughter Patty Hart Williams and Boosters Jean and Charles Lane

In addition to the restaurants mentioned above, other participants include Belmont Brewing Company, Bogart’s Coffee House (Seal Beach), Buono’s Authentic Pizzeria, Four Olives, Francelli’s, Frenchy’s Bistro, Joe Jost’s, Khoury’s Restaurant, Lasher’s Restaurant, Long Beach Firefighters Local #372, Margarita Grille, Parker’s Lighthouse, Polly’s Pies, Salvatores Pasta House (Downey), Shenandoah Café (Los Alamitos), TGIS Catering, The Grand, Third Street Café, Wasabi, Whale & Ale (San Pedro) and a wine tasting provided by Morry’s of Naples.

The Long Beach Youth Home, the first of four divisions of ChildNet Youth and Family Services, is a residential treatment facility for troubled boys ages 11 through 17. It was founded in 1970 by a group of Long Beach civic leaders that recognized a growing need to help abused and neglected youth ages 11 through 17. Residents receive 24-hour supervision, averaging six months in duration. They attend an on-site school, Zinsmeyer Academy, and participate in intensive services geared to reunite them with their families, or prepare them for independent living at age 18.
