250+ KIDS, plus THEIR PARENTS TO RIDE IN 2-MILE 4th of JULY PATRIOTIC KIDS BIKE PARADE & CONTEST AT THE BEACH IN LONG BEACH

(Mayor Foster & His Wife/Son/Grandkids are Grand Marshals)


WHEN
WED., JULY 4, 10 A.M. (parade begins at 10 a.m.),
lineup/registration begins at 9 a.m. Awards immediately follow the parade, approx. 10:40 a.m.

WHAT
Justin Rudd's nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (CAT) is sponsoring the annual "Great American Kids' 4th of July Bike Parade" in Belmont Shore on Wed., July 4. More than 250 kids, plus their parents are expected to ride on decked-out patriotic-themed bikes and other non-motorized vehicles waving flags while wearing red, white and blue, in hopes of taking home prize money. The parade celebrates patriotism and youth creativity.

WHERE
start/finish: 1 Granada Ave. on the beach bike path

The 2-mile leisurely-paced "out & back" parade will start at the Granada Boat Launch Ramp (Granada Ave. @ Ocean Blvd.) and travel east along the beach bike path, continuing down Bay Shore Ave. to Second St. Bay Shore Ave. will be closed to automobile traffic. The parade will not cross Second St.

STAGING
In the beachfront parking lot at Granada Ave. Entrants are encouraged to line-up their bikes as soon as they arrive. Lineup can begin at 9 a.m.

REGISTER
Free entry. Registration starts at 9 a.m. No pre-registration. Parents must accompany their kids as they sign liability waivers before the parade.


JUDGING
Judging will take place near the start of the parade route based on: display of red, white & blue; originality; creativity; and spectator appeal. Prize consideration for kids up to 12 years old.

REQUIRMENTS/RULES
Helmets required. No motorized vehicles. All ages welcome in the parade. Judging is for kids up to age 12.

PRIZES
$10 cash and new books to the top-ten best decorated bikes.

GRAND MARSHALS
Mayor Bob Foster and his wife Nancy, their son James, and their granddaughter Tayor, 7, and grandson Bobby, 5.
