PUBLIC INVITED: C.A.T. & HAUTE DOGS TO HONOR A WELL-KNOWN LONG BEACH BULLDOG'S 10TH BIRTHDAY WITH FREE DINNER PARTY/CHARITY EVENT NEXT TUES., SEPT. 25 FROM 6-8 P.M.

Justin Rudd's nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (C.A.T.) and Haute Dogs will celebrate Rosie the Bulldog's (pictured) 10th birthday with free food and drinks at a Tues., Sept. 25 charity fundraiser at the new On the Mark restaurant, located at 335 Nieto Ave. (@Appian Way), next to Colorado Lagoon. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and celebrate. In lieu of gifts for Rosie or payment for meals and drinks that evening, organizers simply ask guests to consider a tax-deductible donation to C.A.T. Checks can be made payable to "C.A.T." There will also be silent auction items. Details at www.CommunityActionTeam.org. RSVP to JustinRudd@aol.com. Human guests only. Rosie will arrive to the party in her Red Flyer wagon, since she lives nearby.

Rudd invites dog lovers, C.A.T. lovers, anyone who has ever enjoyed one of C.A.T.'s events or programs (see the list below) or who has had a smile put on their face by Rosie the Bulldog to please attend. Rosie will turn 10 on Oct. 7. The average lifespan for a bulldog is 8-10 years, and Rosie, despite her arthritis, continues to be a cheerful icon in the Belmont Shore area as she is escorted about town in her Red Flyer wagon.

As part of the restaurant's grand opening, On the Mark will host the free dinner party from 6-8 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 25 that will benefit C.A.T. In addition to regular table service, appetizer-sized menu items will be tray passed.

On the Mark, opened its doors on Aug. 4 and serves breakfast and lunch daily. They also offer candlelit dinners on Thursday evenings. The restaurant can seat 100 at its all-outdoor, tree-shaded dining areas.

Some of C.A.T.'s successful annual events include the Haute Dog Easter and Howl'oweeen Parades, the Bulldog Beauty Contest, the Interfaith Blessing of the Animals, monthly 30-Minute Beach Cleanups, spelling bees for kids and adults, Operation Easter Basket and Operation Santa Paws. C.A.T. also donates new beds, cribs, and bikes to underserved at Christmas time.

Rosie is the reason Rudd has organized, and continues to organize, all these community pet events. It was because of Rosie that Rudd led the effort to establish the only off-leash dog beach in Los Angeles County (the Long Beach Dog Zone). Rosie has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, on every LA-based TV news channel and on tapings for shows like HGTV's Going Home and Animal Planet's game show You Lie Like a Dog. Recently, she was seen in newspapers across the United States and Canada as she frolicked in the surf at the Long Beach dog beach in an Associated Press photo and story about North American off-leash dog beaches. Additionally, Rosie and Rudd are featured in a book about men and their dogs, and Rosie's photos have been featured in magazines and Web sites around the world.
