The Long Beach Central Area Association and the 2nd City Council Gallery + Performance Space
(2cc) are proud to present Ron Wilkins “Journal to Black Mexico: a photographic discourse.” The exhibition features beautiful portraits of Mexicans with African ancestry. The exhibition runs Jan. 26 – Feb. 28, 2008. The artist’s reception is Sat. Feb.
2nd from 7 – 9 p.m. and features the music of Richard Atkins, violinist.

On Sat. Feb. 9 from 2 -4 p.m. Ron Wilkins, Professor, Africana Studies at California State University Dominguez Hills, will discuss his exhibition and present the lecture, “Creating and Sustaining Mutually-Supportive Relationships Between Black and Brown Students.”

Professor Wilkins has actively promoted and worked towards understanding and equality among peoples for much of his life. He views this as increasingly more important with the dramatic rise in tension and violence between African American and Mexican peoples in Southern California. Ron Wilkins’ work explores the often unknown shared history as well as offering fascinating examples of historical and contemporary alliances between African Americans and Mexicans.

The gallery, reception and lecture are free and open to the public.
