Well folks, here's the latest on Long Beach Energy's Solar Campaign. This
is posted on the City of Long Beach website for discussion at the Long Beach
City Council on Tuesday. It would be neat to get some Long Beach PV
proponents at the meeting to support the campaign. AND WHEN I SAY LONGN
BEACH PV PROPONENTS, I MEAN YOU FOLKS!!!!! Also, some input as to what is
being proposed. Let's see what we have:
* information to citizen's about solar energy options
* solar demonstration project and educational museum display at the El
Dorado Nature Center
* educational community event at El Dorado Nature Center on June 22
* pilot solar rebate program (to work in conjunction with the
California Energy Commission rebate; I don't have the details on how this
would work -- COOL STUFF THOUGH!)
* energy efficient upgrades, including LED traffice lights (real
energy savers)
* PV project at the SERRF plant
* 40kW at the North Police Station (wherever it lands)
Here is the upshot, if, IF, IF, IF, if the public shows interest, the Energy
Department will return with more plans for approval. Perhaps even that
lottery they are considering. They are looking for approval on Tuesday,
April 30 in order "to provide adequate time to install a solar system at the
El Dorado Nature Center" and plan the community event on June 22.
Hope some of you can join me April 30. The more, the merrier, to show our
council that there are people who support a renewable option and support the
efforts to move in this direction.
Also, just a little note, I'm starting to do volunteer work in the
elementary schools showing kids the basics of PV. Getting them to
understand solar power. Just basic stuff. My first class will be 3rd grade
at McGaugh School in Seal Beach (where my nephew attends.) If anyone is
interested in taking this further, just let me know.
