ON SATURDAY, JUNE 15, AT 10 A.M., VOLUNTEERS WILL BE COMBING THE SHORES OF LONG BEACH REMOVING DEBRIS AND TRASH. ON ITS THIRD ANNIVERSARY, THE 30-MINUTE BEACH CLEANUP WILL GIVE PARTICIPANTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE A PROGRAM THAT IS ESSENTIAL TO THE HEALTH OF THE COASTAL ENVIRONMENT.

MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED TO SHOW UP FOR THE EVENT. THE 30-MINUTE BEACH CLEANUP TAKES PLACE AT THE SAME TIME AND PLACE EVERY THIRD SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, 10:00-10:30 a.m. AT THE END OF GRANADA AVENUE IN BELMONT SHORE.

JUSTIN RUDD, FOUNDER/ORGANIZER EMPHASIZES THAT THE PROGRAM IS ESSENTIAL TO IMPROVING THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT AS DEBRIS THREATENS WILDLIFE AND THE OVERALL ECOSYSTEM.

LONG BEACH IS ESPECIALLY AFFECTED BY DEBRIS RUN-OFF AS THE LOS ANGELES RIVER EMPTIES NEAR DOWNTOWN. GARBAGE WASHES DOWNSTREAM AND COLLECTS INSIDE THE BREAKWATER. EVENTUALLY, THE TRASH RETURNS TO SHORE. ALTHOUGH THE CITY OF LONG BEACH REMOVES MUCH OF THE TRASH, THERE REMAINS THE NEED FOR CITIZENS TO HELP IN THE EFFORT.

REFRESHMENTS, BAGS AND GLOVES WILL BE PROVIDED.

Three-Year Anniversary of Grassroots Beach Cleanup Effort
Hello. The 30-Minute Beach Cleanup is celebrating its Three-Year Anniversary on Sat., June 15. Over the last 36 months of this grassroots effort, thousands of bags of trash have been collected and thousands of volunteers have helped us to keep our beaches clean and safe by volunteering just 30 minutes on the third Saturday of each month.

We will have a cake cutting (decorated to honor Mother Nature) and other refreshments.

Awardees
We will present awards of appreciation to Duthie Power Services (donors of refreshments every month), Mr. Marc Posch (t-shirt and Web designer, www.BeachCleanup.org) and Surfrider Foundation (volunteer support each month).

Giant Thank-You Card for Mother Nature
All participants will be asked to sign a giant posterboard-sized card to Mother Nature, thanking Her for our beautiful beaches and ocean.

Schedule of Events
The cleanup will take place from 10-10:30 and the awards/refreshments will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the beach at the end of Granada Ave. in Belmont Shore. The event will be ended at about 10:50.

T-Shirts for Volunteers
30-Minute Beach Cleanup T-shirts will be distributed to volunteers, while supplies last.
