Local Volunteers Sought for Beach Cleanup this Sat., Sept. 21
(Monthly 30-Minute Beach Cleanup Joins CA Coastal Cleanup Day this Sat. at 10 a.m.)

(Long Beach) Volunteers are sought for the "30-Minute Beach Cleanup" that will take place from 10-10:30 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 21 at the end of Granada Ave. in Belmont Shore. Participants in this monthly grassroots effort will join with hundreds of volunteers in Long Beach as part of California's Coastal Cleanup Day. The 30-Minute Beach Cleanup seeks to create a clean and safe place for residents, visitors and aquatic wildlife along the Long Beach coast.

Coming at the end of the summer beach season and right near the start of the school year, Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources, learn about the impacts of marine debris and how we can prevent them, and to have fun!

"Volunteers will be combing the beach sands for debris this Saturday on Coastal Cleanup Day and the 30-Minute Beach Cleanup taskforce will add manpower to help remove tons of trash from our coastline," said Justin Rudd, founder/organizer of the 30-Minute Beach Cleanup. "We are looking for families, students, individuals and organizations to come out and support our ½-hour effort to help make Long Beach's beaches safe, clean and beautiful."

On the third Saturday of every month, the 30-Minute Beach Cleanup volunteers progress toward the Belmont Pier and the Peninsula. Bags and gloves are provided by the City of Long Beach's Adopt-A-Beach program. Volunteers are asked to wear shoes and sunscreen. The Cleanup ends at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by refreshments, donated monthly by Duthie Power Services.
