THE PRIME SPOT EXPANDS!
You can now start your week off with ThePrimeSpot Radio Show on Cerritos College's WPMD.org from 9-11am and end it with TPSradio at CSULB's kbeach.org 9-11pm! That's right, I'll be spending my day off from my Postal Route, sharing ThePrimeSpot Music Collection with a brand new audience in 90703 and the wwworld!... If you are an active band from the 562 and I do not yet have your CD, send it along with "signed, written authorization, 'okay to play on ThePrimeSpot'" to: ThePrimeSpot PO Box 562 Long Beach, CA 90801. The cool thing about the station at Cerritos is that they have a computer online in the studio so I can pull up the event calendar directly from MySpace.com (& Club562.com) ie. Who is playing Where. (Perhaps a music lovin' reader would like to host a simultaneous chat on AOL as well?) Hopefully in the near future, KBEACH.org will not only podcast the shows at CSULB but maybe we can bring you a Live Show at The Blue Cafe (or elsewhere) on a Friday Night via Live Webcast!..... I never received a response from Indie 103.1 fm about my DJ application, but maybe I won't need a job there if I can secure some sponsors. INTERESTED? Call ThePrimeSpot Hotline at 562-804-5625!) ThePrimeSpot Radio showcases TPS (Talent, Products and Services) from the 562 area of SoCaL. Tell me, how many "demographic" radio shows have YOU heard in your lifetime? The 562 is so full of talent, there isn't really room to play LA & OC bands - unless they have a live show coming up in Long Beach, etc!
CERRITOS COLLEGE RADIO (WPMD.org), continued!
WPMD.org has a great Saturday Lineup at Cerritos, I actually took a Saturday off from work to check out the shows with TPSradio coHost MO a few weeks ago. MIKE STARK, who hosts ROCK 50 also produces a monthly showcase (NOT an open mic, like I previously thought!) of indie talent hosted by singer-songwriter TEE-M.com. The LineUp during their April show, (and TEE-M's One Year Anniversary!) included ANGIE MATTSON, BRANDON SCHOTT, DEAN, FJAERE, JIMI YAMAGISHI (from Songnet.org), KAT PARSONS (on a recent Music Connection cover!), KELDA.et (playing LB's Library Coffeehouse May 7th), LIZ FOSTER, LUIS OLIART, STIMULATOR, THE GREATEST FEAR, THE WILLIE's, TONY (from Erwin), TRACE DEVAI, and MARINAV.com (MARINA was the only musician I was familiar with!). When I arrived at the station STEVE PROPES (the funny guy who writes the police blotter for the BEACHCOMBER NEWS and who used to work at KLON), was spinning his 45's and put Me&Mo on the microphone for a tad bit. I am SO GLAD to be a part of this professional audio family! Wednesday's lineup on WPMD.org includes BILL LAVALLE's "Hour of Neil Young", and also DENNIS CLARE's "New Music" show.... I'm looking forward to checking out the others. These DJ's are so smooth, I have to admit they are BETTER THAN MOST on AM & FM!
MORE TO COME ON TPS!
My cohost MO POWER just left for England to see CREAM, so you will get and earful when she returns! She also has a Special Guest, a Psychiatrist, DR. MICHAEL LANDAU scheduled on TPSradio Friday May 6 (followed by G MURRAY THOMAS's Poetry Show on KBEACH.org) .... PITboss JvonD.com, our "Partner in Technology" has posted some TPSradio Shows (CHRIS ANDERSON, LEE GODDEN) and SARAH GREEN clips from Beercasting.com on PODCASTPAGES.com (Check out JvonD.com Sat May 14th at the SECOND SATURDAY ARTWALK May 14th along with THE DIBS ( Did you know that lead singer CHRIS HANLIN and beautiful wife KELLY OSTENDORF are moving to Sonoma? CHRIS n' FRIENDS will have a 2 hour show in June on TPS before they go!) ... On May 13th, TPSradio will SPOTlight JEFFREYSCOTTMUSIC.com (at DiPiazza's 5/17 and the Que Sera 6/1 and KERNRICHARDS.com (former Punk Rocker who plays at The Blue Cafe on Thursdays) and .... one of my coWorkers (read the next paragraph!)
IDENTITY THEFT
DEBRA NORRIS handles U.S. mail everyday, just as I do, every day. As a side job, she works in the area of IDENTITY THEFT. ThePrimeSpot Radio (TPSradio.org) will interview MRS. NORRIS about this subject on May 13th. Note to my LB Weekly Readers: Let me give you some personal advice if you find your mail being delivered to the home you just moved from: In addition to completing a CHANGE OF ADDRESS form with the PO, mark inside your mailbox "Forward ie. Jane Smith" on the day you move. (If you are a new tenant getting the former resident's mail, write "John Doe ONLY") WHY? Because you do not always have the same Letter Carrier delivering your mail and marking the inside of your box can only help with correct delivery! No need to put your name on the outside, it's the INSIDE of the box, the part the carrier sees when opened, which can aid in delivery. IN ADDITION, and most importantly, contact each of your senders (ie. Credit Card Companies, Insurance, Doctors, rich relatives that send you checks for your birthday) and ENSURE THEY HAVE YOUR NEW ADDRESS. Why? Because it is a COURTESY, not a REQUIREMENT that the Post Office forwards your mail! (If you REALLY want to get on my good side, reasses WHERE your mailbox is located. Remember, slips, trips and falls are the #1 causes of Postal Carrier accidents, and quite frankly, you DON'T want a sub delivering your mail when you can have your "reular", do you?!
BEST OF LBCTv MAY 2005
As you know, TPSradio is also heard over CHARTER CABLE ACCESS TV Channels 65, 69, and 95 in Long Beach & Signal Hill. The shows below are seen on those channels, however they are carried over to LB City Channel 3 for additional exposure in May 2005: 5/6 PEOPLE's TRIBUNE TV "Military-Free Schools" (Producer: Marshall Blesofsky); 5/11 MR. MARVIN's REVIEW "The Jimis" ( Marvin Sims), 5/18 May 18 KBN SPECIAL (Cambodian language produced by Bellflower Letter Carrier Alex Thong); and 5/25 VIVA LA VIDA EN LONG BEACH, Grand Prix Special (German Angel - check out his voice clips on ThePrimeSpot.com!).
DOES CORPORATE MEAN NO LOCAL SUPPORT?
I was distressed the other day, specifically 4/20, when I stopped into one of those giant chain book and music stores to put out some flyers only to realize ten minutes later they were thrown into the TRASH! Seriously - I confronted an employee stocking the shelves and he literally pulled my information out of the GARBAGE! (They obviously don't recycle either, ugh!) Until I get to the bottom of this, may I recommend you buy your NEW & USED MUSIC at stores like FINGERPRINTS in Belmont Shore, OPEN in the East Village and STACKS (vinyl) in Cerritos? At least THEY encourage creative types to share their events! And most likely you will meet a local artist or musician by the register who frequent these spots....
SO MANY WORDS, SO LITTLE ROOM!
I can go on&on about the great stuff happening in the LBC and other areas of the 562 but I have to leave room for the other VIEW FROM THE HILL writers and advertisers! If you want more where this came from, log onto ThePrimeSpot.com (feel FREE to contribute, "It's All About You!"). TPS is apolitical, areligious, asexual, we all come together through ART & MUSIC and GOOD VIBE. One day THE PRIME SPOT will have a GOOD NEWS TV Show "so sickly sweet it'll make you puke!" Just wait and see....
KaRi is a nonDisgruntled Postal Worker who gives a Special Thanks to JEFF VON DUNGEN, local Podcaster for making TPS available in yet another medium! She is currently looking for Sponsors she can boast about in her VIEW column (see "KaRi's Korner on LongBeachOnline.net) and on TPSradio. Could that be you?!
