Heya, put down those newspapers, all of those ads look the same!
Ugh! I must admit I kind of feel glad that I am once again not able
to afford to partake in gift exchanges again this Holiday Season
(monetary donations gladly accepted though!). I HATE SHOPPING!
So here I am, about to tell you the COOLEST stuff happening around
town, and you don't have time to read?! "NON-UNION, ARAB, MALE ACTOR
WANTED TO RAISE US FLAG ON FILM" ... how's that for
raising...eyebrows? If you respond to that Call posted on
theprimespot.com by Long Beach's JACKI SKEELS, please keep TPS
informed, we'd like to follow your trip. That is one acting part
that is probably short and heavy, silent but heard everywhere... just
dang powerful!
FOR SALE, great gifts for the MUSIC MAKER you know: Bass Guitar, Clarinet
(brand new!), Saxophone, Trumpet (brand new) .... My neighbor is about to lose
all of these instruments from a Pawnshop - Why let the shopkeeper make a few
hundred dollars after charging 35-68% interest, when they can be in YOUR hands
for 25% less than Pawnshop prices. Each purchase comes with ONE FREE LESSON!
Call ThePrimeSpot at 562-804-5625 to learn more. You have until the day after
Christmas!
KICK ASH!
Right now, as I write, I am listening to music by CORDAY
(EnvyRecords.com), specifically "KICK ASH" (talk about powerful.. and
moving! Some of these cuts that talk about KICKING BUTT (as in
cigarettes, make me want to get up and shake just that! I can't
think, off of the top of my head, of ANY artist that has successfully
put out a one-subject item of all-original material of a not-so-sexy
subject (smoking, yellow teeth, kids commenting they are "too smart
to start smoking")... and get away with it in sheer glory! I first
saw CORDAY LIGHTING's neice, JENNIFER CORDAY share a gig years ago
with LELDON at what-was-it-called-turned FIRE ISLAND before they
upgraded their sound system. To date (until this) "I Rule the World"
was my favorite CORDAY tune. Now I can't choose! CORDAY has promoted
the local music scene h e a v i l y by both organizing gigs
(she's got another VENUSENVY.com event coming up at DiPiazza's in
2004) and of course playing them. She's written for a few papers
including LIVE MAGAZINE, the BLADE, and future 562 publications;
maybe she'll share a few vegetarian recipes. (Or does she live on
beer, beans and bananas, only the latter being my
favorite "convenient" food as a Letter Carrier!)
JEN CORDAY had a few gigs to promote and we made a pact at recent
events (KELLY'S LOT and GOGIRLSMUSICFEST at LIQUID LOUNGE and
CORDAY's event with LORELEI KUDE of MEMORIAL HOSP BREAST CANCER, see
venusyenvy.com) to brainstorm. Both KELLY and CORDAY have lost
someone close to them which fires their causes and focuses their
energy - KELLY, with Hep C Awareness, and Jennifer Corday, Kicking
Ash (Smoking, Yuk, Pew).
So there we were, last FRIDAY, CORDAY & I, doing a radio show that
wasn't aired (CSULB is on holiday schedule and TPSradio will resume
in January 2004; Stay updated at theprimespot.com) But what a BLAST -
I am so excited about this music AND message, KICK ASH will be
TPSradio's musical PSA (Public Service Announcement!).
This prompts my question, "What would happen if tobacco companies
were forced to make their product taste like sh#t? Would smokers
still smoke?" Email your response to: theprimespot@a... and I'll
read your comment over TPSradio when I play KICK ASH!
THE PRIME SPOT plays BETTER THAN BOOTLEG music!
Speaking of music, there have been many a great gig posted to
theprimespot.com (ie. LELDON is playing 3 dates in a row and KARMA
STUDIOS has unreleased music For Sale!)... Speaking of UNreleased
music, if you (didn't) hear TPSradio last Friday, you didN'T miss out
on the UNreleased LONG BEACH SHORTBUS (Eric from SUBLIME, RAS1 from
LB DUB ALLSTARS). Yes, I played ONE song, "EVERYBODY'S BEAUTIFUL"
I've got other tunes but I don't want to play anything that will mess
up any future record deals for them. No sirree, I don't want that
hanging over my head, therefore I only play music I have
authorization to play. No bootlegs for sale, either!
LONGBEACHCULTURE.ORG has most of it all down this week, don't forget
to put SONGS FOR BETHUNE in your realtime shopping carts at the LONG
BEACH MUSEUM OF ART Gift Shop or FINGERPRINTS RECORDS in BELMONT
SHORE (or is it "ShoreS?" Email theprimespot@a...)
COMING UP on THE PRIME SPOT Radio Show: DOC ANELLO January 9th.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
I was JUST finishing up a "bad" week at work (as bad as they can get
when you have the best job in the house!)when I locked my car keys in
the company vehicle. IS THIS A SIGN? I only wanted to work at the
Post Office for 3 years (I figured I would be re-trained on taking
orders after running my own HR Dept/ship for years) and now it's
like, about 8 years later! It must be the great coworkers I have that
make one year melt into another....
SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE POSTAL SERVICE
ANYWAY, here is a lil' secret I don't remember sharing with y'all
before: A few years ago (when I could afford to lavish gifts on my
friends and family afar), I would send out the packages via UNITED
STATES POSTAL SERVICE on December 23rd. WHY? Because they would
mark it with a TWO DAY GUARANTEE, meaning they would have to attempt
it on or before CHRISTMAS DAY, DECEMBER 25th (My family lives in an
area which has EXPRESS MAIL DELIVERY Every Day, just like LONG BEACH,
SIGNAL HILL and CARSON among other SoCaL cities). This would mean
either a) My package would surprise them at the PRIME time! (Imagine
someone ringing your doorbell on Christmas Day with a present!) or b)
The Postal Service would be late, and I would be refunded some major
buckage! (I LOVE that word, don't you?).
One time I sent a big "combo" package to my sister's house where my
whole immediate family was gathering. presents for Everybody! Two
days passed, and the package had not been received at my sister's. A
few more days went by. DUH! My sister had moved, but silly me, I
didn't update the old address in my book. So of course the USPS
delivered it to the "wrong" address (which was "correct" on their
part). But Guess What? I got my money back because I noticed they
attempted delivery to the address too late!
Note: We're not supposed to advertise the Post Office, so don't tell
too many people the secret. (It TRULY is a secret, I delivered an
Express to someone in CARSON last month who was a USPS employee in
LA, shocked about SUNDAY & HOLIDAY delivery!) Besides, if EVERYONE
makes the mad dash on the morning of December 23rd, those of us
working on Christmas Day may not be able to take a break!
AFTER HE SUBSCRIBED I SAW HIM ON TV!
I noticed the name JOHN MALEVEAU subscribed to THE PRIME SPOT, then
when I turn on the TV, there he was! JOHN MALEVEAU and I met at the
LONG BEACH MUSEUM OF ART during a PUBLIC CORPORATION OF THE
ARTS "Round Robin" -type Information Event. Turns out he was on
CHANNEL 8 today, and was interviewed by Councilmember LAURA
RICHARDSON about the upcoming MARTIN LUTHER KING JR Parade January
17, 2004. RICHARDSON complimented him on the increase of
entertainment in the city. Maleveau and Music makes the wwWorld
Go 'Round!
FYI, the Belated and Beloved SKI DEMSKI's superflag.com has been
present across the entire US in many parades. I hope they present a
WRINKLE-FREE flag in January because it has been sorely missed.
(Good thing SKI's ashes are in his flagpole so he can't turn over in
his grave). Someone should wrap an iron for Christmas and leave it
on his doorstep...
LONG BEACH T V Charter Ch 8
They have alot of Police Presence on TV Ch 8, between LETTER OF THE
LAW and BACK THE BADGE. (Of course the gangs get their share of exposure on the
tube as well). NOW I know what some of that gang grafitti
means (maybe some things are better left unsaid). The crime
statistics are pretty interesting though. Toyota Camry is the most
widely popular car among thieves, they tell us YOUR CAMRY key will
fit most others (You may NOT want to verify that fact without
permision). Earlier today on Channel 8 I saw a rerun of THE PET
PLACE, celebrating their 1,000 episode over 14 years.
LONG BEACH COMMUNITY TV (Cable Access)
These Channels are where you can find your everyday neighbors:
65/69/95 (depending on your hookup)in both LONG BEACH and SIGNAL
HILL. See LongBeachCommunity.TV and stay tuned for Sponsorship and
Silent Auction information during the 20th year celebration in March
2004. OTHER TV Channels include the LIBRARY Channel and the
EDUCATIONAL CHANNELS as well. It's easy and fun to get involved in
local TV. Lately I've done alot of camera work on

I must admit, when it comes to ART & MUSIC together, right now "JOE
WOOD" comes to mind. I stopped into his exhibit at PORTFOLIO CAFE
last Friday for just a millisecond on my way to TPSradio and was so
LUCKY to get my hands on this awesome CD by (JOE WOOD and) THE LONELY
ONES. Oh my! I have played it 3 times just today and will put it on
for another spin before I turn in... Check out
www.joewoodmusicandart.com I hope to have him on TPSradio before the
close of his exhibit January 31st (Email any questions for him to:
